The Youth Association Invites you to join us in welcoming Miss Somar Homeh, daughter of the late, George Homeh, to speak and showcase her inspiring work in Africa.
The thought of a woman transforming her luxurious life as former Fashion Designer, travelling the world’s most beautiful places, having a wardrobe most would die for, to give it all up in order to serve humanity and give hope to people living in extreme poverty in Africa is a thought unimaginable to most. Yet her pictures evidently tell her story, leaving people amazed at the reality of it all.
In 2008, Somar, filled with emptiness finally signed up to a volunteer program in Kenya to live her life-long dream to help the less fortunate of your world. It was then she realised her purpose in life, the life she was destined to live. After witnessing all the atrocities the communities and vulnerable children were faced with, she selflessly made the choice to dedicate her life to alleviate some of their pain.
Somar established LocalAid, her own charity in 2009 and made Kenya her new home, she thought this was the best way to make sure the fund’s reached the people she was trying to serve. Today LocalAid has built a home for 31 former street children that were abandoned by society and lived hopelessly on the streets. The home offers them food, shelter, education, spiritual guidance and an abundance of Love. LocalAid has also established a health clinic in an urban slum to serve the many people living HIV/AIDS that have no access to healthcare not to mention many other initiatives and campaigns to support forgotten communities.
We are inviting all of you to join us on Tuesday, 21 February 2012 at St Hurmizd Assyrian Primary School (SHAPS) to learn more about Somar’s work as she presents her Journey of humanitarianism and the experiences that have changed her life and the lives of many in Africa.
